We used a Tomy Walkabout Platinum Digital Baby Monitor.
It's a top of the range multi-channel digital monitor which cost £89.00 and has since come down in price.

The sound was crackle free and very clear. The unit was lightweight, stylish, and had a blue glow light to calm the baby (possibly a bit of a gimmick!). We liked the room temperature readout on the parent unit.
