Bathing your baby

Bathing your baby can be an enjoyable and quite a wet experience, especially if you have a 'splashy' baby!
We were told to bath newborn every two to three days, but when she was holding her head, I decided to make this part of our daily routine.

She has a good splash about, which also wears her out ready for bed. Then after her bath, I play gentle music and give her a baby massage, which I learnt on my postnatal course.

You need to get everything ready in advance as you don't want to leave them while you get the sponge you forgot.
Just one word of warning: watch out of your back if you are bending over the bath in an awkward way...

Baby temperature thermometre

To start with, you need a thermometer to test the bath water. You can test the temperature of the water using the traditional elbow test, but we bought an excellent floating device which gives you a reading. We got this one from Boots

Ergonomic bath This specially designed ergonomic bath for bathing your baby has been fantastic from day one. It's called an "Ergonomically-shaped bath support" and we got it from Mothercare but John Lewis also stock it.

One she is in it, I have both hands free to clean her and I don't have to worry about her going under the water.

It is very supportive, and she fits perfectly into it. It has a raised section so that the baby cannot slide out of it. A definite star buy!

Robe and mitten set If you buy a bath, it should have suckers so that it attaches securely to your bath.

There are some great baby towels available, but we bought this Tall & Tiny Cuddle Robe & Mitt Set from Boots
Boots, Mothercare and John Lewis all sell baby bath toys and baby bath equipment.

Baby bathtime accessories

You can buy special baby bath washes; we used Johnson and Johnson's baby top-to-toe wash. It doesn't sting if you accidentally get some in your baby's eyes. Avon kids wash

I would also recommend a baby grooming set with some baby nail clippers. I never realised I would be cutting nails quite so often!

Their nails grow so fast, and if not kept trim, they end up with scratches on their faces.

Boots sell a Safety 1st Deluxe Grooming Set which is contains all the items you need.

It's cheaper to buy a set of baby toiletries than the single items.
Avent make a Avent Baby must have gift set and Johnson and Johnson have a Baby skincare gift set.
