Changing your baby's nappy!

This isn't the most exciting part of looking after a baby!
To start with you'll be changing your babies nappy up to seven times a day.
You'll end up changing a staggering 4000 nappies!

We opted to use disposable nappies and found them to be really good, soaking up all the wetness. The disposable nappies lock away the wetness so effectively, the only way to tell if the nappy is full is to compare it's weight to an unused one.


Boots zinc and castor oil cream protects you baby against nappy rash.

It's excellent and they sell it in a smaller travel tub, and a larger one for home use.
These Pampers wipes from Mothercare are an essential part of your mobile changing bag.
They are completely gentle on you baby's skin, are re-sealable and always seem to be on permanent special offer.

For going out and about, you need a changing bag to keep things in.
We got this Skip hop bag from Mothercare

It was big enough to carry everything around and it has different compartments which is handy for toys, nappies and a changing mat.

A portable changing mat is another essential for your mobile changing bag.

I bought a small one and regretted it. If there are any 'accidents' during changing, you need a large mat to contain things!

Baby Changing units

Baby Changing units raise your baby up to waist height so you don't have to bend over or kneel on the floor.

We don't use our baby changing unit so much now as we tend to use the bed instead, especially as she has learned to roll over!

Also, it's worth pointing out that these baby changing units are BIG and take up loads of space. It may not suit you if you have a small house.

Changing mats

Most changing will arrive in flat-pack format, so you may need some basic hand tools.

You don't have to buy a separate changing unit if you have a suitable cot.
